JOB SUMMARY:

The Automation Intern will get exposure to a variety of value-add projects and concepts, including working on electrical panels and automation projects. The intern will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced technical personnel at Ramco and be introduced to electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and code specifications. Additionally, the Shop Intern will be exposed to the Ramco Automation and Sales teams periodically for opportunities to see the full value-add automation distributor sales and project cycles.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shop Team
    • Perform electrical wiring, soldering and crimping of electrical connections per schematics and wiring diagrams.
    • Assist with testing of panels to ensure Ramco’s quality.
  • Application Engineering Team:
    • Shadow automation team members. Projects can include motion systems, vision systems, sensor applications, etc.
    • Assist with robotics proof-of-concept work.
    • Learn other day-to-day functions of the automation/application team:
      • Crossing parts
      • Developing training sessions
      • Creating white papers (step-by-step guides on how to perform a particular task)

QUALIFICATIONS/ JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Computer skills, including Microsoft and Google Suite. AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Occasional travel to client sites across the Midwest with a supervisor.
  • Able to interact and cooperate with all company employees.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
  • Self motivated, results-oriented, organized and energetic.
  • Read and comprehend basic English.
  • Understand and demonstrate safe shop equipment operating procedures, including basic use and safe operation of hand and power hand tools.
  • Read and comprehend basic English.
  • Demonstrate effective written, verbal and communication skills including legible handwriting, typing, and data entry skills.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical skills as related to business use.
  • Able and willing to learn and perform additional tasks that may be assigned.
  • Appearance at all times must represent the company image.
  • Able to commute to West Des Moines location.

  • Variable work environment which includes both indoors and outdoors, in industrial (using shop tools), commercial and office settings with varying environmental conditions, including the following:
    • Sitting in a normal seated position for an extended period of time.
    • Work in a typical shop environment.
    • Fast-paced environment: subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
  • Exposure to the environment of customer facilities during on site visits which may require wearing safety glasses, steel-toed boots, ear plugs and possibly a hardhat.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using keyboard , hand tools and testing equipment.
