Banner PM Series Wireless Communication
This article and video will introduce the PM Series from Banner Engineering. The PM Series is an easy to deploy, simple to use, proprietary point-to-point bi-directional radio communication system. It is the ideal solution for remote places and where it is impractical or too costly to run wires and conduit.
The PM Series simply replaces discrete, analog, serial and Ethernet signal wires. The Gateway and node are delivered pre-mapped which eliminates the need for software and additional set-up time.
Banner Engineering’s secure, proprietary RF protocol coupled with license-free frequency hopping technology makes for a reliable and secure communications network. The SureCross protocol only carries I/O data, making it impossible for a malicious executable file to be transmitted.
With a rugged and robust construction, the polycarbonate housing provides an IP67-rating for demanding environments allowing the devices to be resistant to shock and vibration.
The Menu-driven LCD user interface is easy to navigate and provides clear I/O and signal strength feedback to the user.
The signal for 1 Watt radios will travel up to 6 miles line-of-sight. Obstructions such as walls, trees, and hills can interfere with the signal, so a sight survey is recommended to ensure proper signal strength throughout the wireless system.
The PM series offers a great solution for digital or analog wire replacement, level, pressure & temperature monitoring, humidity monitoring, predictive maintenance and more.
Each gateway and node come standard with 6 inputs and 6 outputs. You can choose from 2 I/O configurations; the PM2 or PM8 series. The PM2 series consists of 4 discrete in, 4 discrete out and 2 analog in, 2 analog out. The PM8 Series consists of 6 discrete in and 6 discrete out.
One Gateway comes pre-configured to handle up to 6 nodes; with 8 pre-configured I/O maps to choose from so that it is easy to set up your network without software. As your needs grow, each Gateway network can be expanded to support up to 47 nodes using the configuration software.
The PM kit simplifies the wireless process even further! The Kit features one gateway and one node that come pre-bound and pre-mapped providing you a simple way to solve your first wireless challenge.
Out-of-the-Box Setup
First, attach the antenna to both the Gateway and the node.Apply power to each device.
Visually ensure that the devices are indeed bound together. Light one will flash green on each device if they are properly bound.
That’s it! It’s that simple! You are now ready to wire up your devices and let the PM series go to work!
Expanding your Network: Binding a Node and Gateway Together
First remove the rotary switch cover on the node you will be adding to the network.
Ensure that the left rotary dial is on 0 and turn the right dial to its respective order in the network. In this case turn the dial to 2.
On the gateway push button #2 3 times to put the gateway into binding mode.
Then on the node push button #2 3 times to bind the node to the gateway.
Exit binding mode on the gateway by single-clicking either button 1 or button 2. Your 2nd node is now bound to the gateway.
The next step is to switch the I/O map to map 2N which supports 2 nodes on one gateway.
Press button one on the gateway to advance through the menu until *MAPIO appears.
Press button 2 to enter the MAPIO menu.
Press button 1 until 2N appears.
Press button 2 to select MAP 2N. SAVED will appear on the LCD screen.
Double click button 2 to exit the MAPIO menu.
Replace cables and extend the range of digital and analog signals with minimum effort with the new PM series from Banner Engineering.
