Banner Magnet Style Non-contact Safety Interlock Switches
This article and Ramco TV video will be taking a look at the Magnet Style, Non-contact Safety Interlock switches from Banner Engineering.
Non-contact magnet style safety interlock switches are typically used on gates, doors, and guards in machine safeguarding applications that do not require a locking gate switch.
Please note that a machine safeguarding Risk Assessment and Safety Distance calculation should be performed according to the appropriate industry standards and regulations before applying any type of safety device.
Banner magnet style safety interlock switches are available in 3 different housing configurations. The model SI-MAG1 switch is available with a flat rectangular housing measuring 25mm by 88 mm.
For applications requiring a more compact switch, the model SI-MAG2 switch is available in a block style housing measuring 26 x 43 mm.
The model SI-MAG3 switch uses a 30mm threaded barrel mounting.
All models come standard with a 3 meter, 4 conductor cable; an optional 9 meter cable is also available.
The internal components are contained in an epoxy-encapsulated circuit that is resistant to water and dirt. The polyamide housing allows these switches meet the NEMA 4X and IP67 rating.
All sensors have one normally open and one normally closed contact. The switching elements consist of three pole-stable reed switches with a repeat switching accuracy of +/- 0.1mm.
A variety of coded magnets are available depending on the switch model and sensing range required. Coded magnets in this series help minimize the risk of intentional defeat of a safety system.
Please note that the sensor and magnet pair must be mounted a minimum distance of 15mm away from any magnetized or ferrous materials such as iron.
For safety applications, the switch must be used with a Banner GM-FA-10J Gate Monitoring Module, or the new Banner SC26 safety controller, or other comparable safety monitoring relay which accepts complimentary inputs.
