ABB ACS880 Variable Frequency Drive
This article and video will be taking a look at
ACS880 line of drives from ABB.
These all- compatible drives are designed to provide
customers across industries and applications with unprecedented levels of
compatibility and flexibility.
The ACS880 are available in either single stand-alone drives
or multi-drives. They are customized to meet the precise needs of industries
and control a wide range of applications such as cranes, extruders, winches,
winders, conveyors, mixers, compressors, pumps and fans.
ACS880 Features & Benefits
Some of the highlights of this line of drives includes the
Intuitive human-machine interface and PC tool.
The Human-machine interface is equipped with a high
resolution control display that enables easy navigation. The menus and messages
are customizable for specific terminology so that each application can be set
up and configured to its optimum performance.
The Drive composer PC tool offers fast and harmonized setup,
commissioning and monitoring for a whole drives portfolio. The PC tool is
connected to the drive using an Ethernet connection or through the integrated
USB connection on the assistant control panel. All drive information such as
parameter lists, fault loggers, backups and event lists are gathered into a
support diagnostics file with a single mouse click.
The built in energy calculators including used and saved
kilowatt hours, CO2 reduction and money saved help the user fine tune processes
to ensure optimal energy use. The energy optimizer mode ensures the maximum
torque per ampere, reducing energy drawn from the supply.
The ACS880-01 is a wall mounted single drive compatible with
a wide range of applications in a broad range of industries such as oil and
gas, mining, metals, chemicals, cement, power plants, material handling, pulp
and paper, sawmills and marine.
At the heart of the drive is direct torque control, ABB’s
premier motor control technology. The extensive range of options include EMC
filters, encoders, resolvers, dv/dt filters, sine filters, and chokes, as well
as application specific software.
Built-in safety features such as safe-torque-off reduce the
need for external safety components.
Multiple drives can be daisy-chained with either traditional
wire, or ABB’s proprietary fiber-optic connection for synchronized
drive-to-drive communication.
The drives offering includes enclosure class IP21 for
industrial environments. The drives are compatible with virtually any type of
AC Motors such as asynchronous induction motors, permanent magnet synchronous
motors, synchronous reluctance motors, and the new Baldor cooling tower motor.
They also provide extensive input/output connectivity and support all major
fieldbus protocols.
