Turck BL Series Remote IO
This article and video will cover the BL series line of remote I/O products by Turck. With Turck’s remote I/O products you can monitor and control I/O from locations hundreds of feet away without having to run multiple wires, all you need is a network cable.
Turcks BL series remote I/O can potentially connect to any PLC using your preferred communication Protocol. The gateways that provide the communication platform, are available in common network types including Ethernet, Profibus, DeviceNet and CANopen; If you select the Ethernet gateway you choose Modbus TCP, ProfiNet and most common Ethernet/IP.
There are two environmental versions available. The IP20 which is known as the BL20 series and the IP67 which is known as BL67.
Along with the different environmental versions these devices can be either programmable or non-programmable. These devices can not only provide remote I/O for your standard PLC but they can also provide stand-alone logic using CoDeSys.
Specialty input cards are available and include analog, high speed input, serial, temperature and RFID reading, just to name a few. Specialty output cards are also available and include RFID writing, high speed out, and analog out.
For those who prefer a block design, Turck has an option available. The block has same fieldbus and I/O configurations as modular designs.
Tracking products throughout the production process has been increasing in demand over the years. Turck has a great solution for this request using RFID tags, RFID Transceivers, and the BL Series RFID Slices. For example the information on this tag can contain a serial number of the product you want to track. This tag is mounted to your product and when it reaches specific points throughout the process, the tag can be read using Turcks RFID transceivers and BL series RFID slices. That information can then be sent via Ethernet to a database for logging. The tags can come in variety of shapes and sizes with tags as small as 7.5mm. Temperature ratings from -40C to 300C.
The transceivers that read the tags also come in a variety of sizes. Selection is typically dependent upon how far away the tag need’s to be to read. Not only can these transceivers read the values of the tags but they can also write and re-write values for a complete solution.
Turck has a wide variety of remote I/O solutions that fit virtually any type of environment and I/O requirement.
