In this article and video, will introduce the Spot 10 safety light beam from ABB.
The Spot 10 is a single point beam system consisting of an emitter and receiver pair. It is mainly used for body detection at the entrance to or around a hazardous area.
The Spot 10 is used in conjunction with the ABB Vital 1 safety monitoring relay or it may also be used with the ABB Pluto safety PLC.
It is not intended to be used as a point of operation safe guarding device for the detection of fingers or hands.
Up to 6 beams can be connected in series to a Vital controller.
Series connected systems maintain a Pl e / Cat 4 rating per ISO 13849-1.
The emitter and receiver pairs are commonly used with reflective mirrors to create a two beam, perimeter sensing configuration.
Each emitter / receiver pair has a range of up to 10 meters. It should be noted that each mirror will reduce the sensing distance by approximately 20%.
An on board LED is provided on both units as an additional aid in the alignment of the emitter and receiver.
Mirrors, mounting brackets, and hardware accessories are available.
The compact, M18, threaded barrel design, allows for convenient mounting in tight spaces.
Electrical hook up to the emitter and receiver is provided by a M12 connector for ease of installation.
A wide range of cables and connectors are available for the connection of a single emitter/receiver pair or series connection of multiple beam sets.
The Spot 10 carries an IP67 environmental rating as well as an operating temperature range of -25 degrees C to +65°C.
We always recommended that a risk assessment and safety distance calculation be performed for the proper positioning of the machine safeguarding device.
